im at a speech tournament right now. well I'm in my hotel room. i straightened my hair and ironed my clothes last night. packed my bag and bought mary janes this morning. picked up my brother and had lunch with my mom this afternoon. then my girlfriend came over after work and she dropped me off at my community college so I could get picked up by my coach.

I'm the only girl for this trip so I get a room all to myself. it feels really nice, I get to be a little messy and not worry about it. listen to my videos at any volume.

i get a 90 dollar visa card for this tournament for food, so I spent 30 dollars on icecream, pasta, and pesto cheese bread at food trucks... which is kind of ridiculous now that I think about it. but the hotel has free breakfast and the tournament covers my lunch, so I still have plenty. I'm so grateful for this all.

I'm so sleepy. i practiced my piece in my new mary janes a couple times to break them in, but they're honestly already so so so comfortable. i just feel really good. I'm nervous because Im bringing a new piece to this tournament that I've only done a few times in front of my team, and I'm a little worried about going over time, but its ok. tomorrow ill present for 10 minutes at least 4 times, and 5-6 if I break in either event (because I'm bringing two pieces.)

I got 2nd place in novice prose last tournament, so I'm hoping to break again. I'm hesitant to say I want first, but obviously I do. if not, I have one more tournament this semester :)

I'm hoping to go to at least 3 tournaments a semester, so by time I graduate, ill have gone to at least 12. I think that would be really really cool. i wonder if ill keep doing this even when getting my masters? i hope so, but I keep hearing people say 2 years is about the lifespan of someone being on the team...although it seems to be mostly the debaters who say that, and I'm just on speech. so I dunno.

anyway, its almost 11 and I need to be awake really early tomorrow!! so goodnight. ill try to update tomorrow on how day 1 went
